Happy Easter

Hello Stamping Friends,

I hope you take a few moments to reflect on what today really is. Jesus died on a cross and rose again to take away all our sins so we can go to Heaven for eternity. He made the ultimate sacrifice to give us a gift of eternal life.

This card is a bright, Springy looking card that I thought would be a good card to share with you on Easter. It says renewal to me.  I know the greeting I have on it says Happy Birthday but it easily could have said Happy Easter. Besides, we are celebrating a birthday here at my house today as well as Easter. It's Brittney's 23rd birthday (3rd birthday that has fallen on Easter, too). So it is still a very fitting card.  Happy Birthday Britt!

 

This was a card that I saw and tweaked to make it my own. I love yellow roses so that was my major change, the card I saw used reds.  It really changes the complete look of the card. This was another card made at a recent big shot class.  A lot of stamping and cutting but it's such an impressive looking card when finished. No, you wouldn't want to make 50 of these beauties, but a couple isn't too bad.

Pretty Flowers for You

Hello Stamping Friends,

 I hope you are having a great week. Tomorrow's Friday, woohoo!  Today I'm sharing with you a card we made at the January big shot class.  It was a lot of fun to make and I love whenever you can use some stamping supplies outside the box and that's just what this card did. Continue reading to see what I'm talking about.

 

On the outside it looks like any ordinary pretty flower card, right?  Well, wait to see what happens when you open it up.

 

 

Ta da!!!!  It's the awesome new dress form die made into a cute pot full of pretty flowers. First of all, let me just say that I love, love, love the new pop up dress form die. But then knowing it can be used for other things and not just dresses is simply awesome.  I'll be sharing some more ideas with you as I make them. Don't want to spoil the fun just yet.

 

And here's a close-up of the flower pot "stand" and the pot of flowers.  What do you think? Pretty clever, huh?

Such a Pretty Rose

Hello Stamping Friends,

Today I need to share with you such a pretty rose card. I received this card from my friend Debbie N. in Virginia (many of you know her as one of my sisters in stamping) for my birthday. Yes, that was a few weeks ago, but I'm just now getting a chance to take a picture and post it for your eyes to enjoy.

 

Isn't this a awesome card. I love the grid on the white cardstock. Debbie created the grid first by using the Simply scored and then she stamped the rose on top of it. I always love the 2 step stamping flowers, especially the roses. They look wonderful all the time.  Also, check out the cutest little bow, I'm more than sure Debbie made it using a fork. Gotta love those fork bows, so easy and pretty every time.

 

Here's a close-up of the main focal image of the card. Just wanted you to see how neat this technique is.  Thank you very much Debbie for such a pretty birthday greeting. I loved the card and it sure brightened my day when I opened it.

 

Another Frosty Cards for You

Hello Stamping Friends,

I'm back with yet another Christmas card for you.  This is card number two from last week's Stamp a Stash class. All cards were made with snowmen or snowflakes so they were wonderful Christmas cards but they can easily be changed into a winter thank you, birthday, or thinking of you type card by simply changing the greeting because snowmen and snowflakes are great all winter long (well, by February they aren't so great anymore if you live in the Northeast, by then you are pretty well finished with them).

 

I just loved the Stylin' Snowfolk set when I saw the new catalog that I just had to have it. I love snowmen, and a set that I can create a lot of different looking snowmen ans snowwomen was just going to be a have to have kind of set.  Well, I got it awhile ago and this is the first time it saw some ink and paper.  Now that I finally pulled it out, I NEED to create even more with it. You will be seeing more snow people in your future, I promise.

 

When I was thinking about the design of this card, I wanted black and white but I was a little afraid it wouldn't look right. But I wanted white snowflakes on the black so I decided to forge ahead with it anyway. And I must admit that I really love how this card turned out. I think it is my favorite from stash. I was afraid it would be too "dark" looking but I think it turned out looking great.  The little pop of red with the buttons and scarf and the orange carrot nose is the perfect pop.

Happy Jacks

Hello Stamping Friends,

Hope you are enjoying this cool weather.  I love the beautiful fall leaves but I'm not fond of what is coming, cold, cold weather here in Northeast Pennsylvania.  So instead I'm going to focus on the fun things the fall brings, pumpkins, costumes, all things apples, giving thanks and everything else that goes with it.

Today I have a fun, happy Jack-o-lantern card to share with you. I made this card for my team meeting last month. It really is a fun card, I know I would love to recieve it and I'm more than sure a lot of little trick or treaters would be extremely happy to receive some mail and when they open up this beauty they will be estactic.

 

I love using designer series paper on my projects because it makes creating so easy. My colors are selected for me and a lot of the creative work (design) is done for me. Gotta love that.

Fall is Upon Us

And this week at Sisters in Stamping we are showing you some great Fall projects to keep you stamping when it's just a little too chilly outside.

I decided to share with all of you a little box that I have made at the past few workshops and clubs that I have done.  All my attendees loved it, so I figured why not share it with you too.  I used the Gently Falling stamp set (that I earned for FREE by the way, ask me how) and one of the kraft gift boxes also from the Holiday Mini Catalog.  I'm tellin' you, I REALLY love this mini.  So many great things in it. For the leaves on the box I used the colors from the Spice Cake Suite (also in the Holiday mini, told you there were a lot of great things). To get the mulit-colored leaves I used the baby wipe technique which uses reinkers on a baby wipe to make an ink pad.  Then I stamped the outline image in Soft Suede to really define the leaves. Host your own party and you and your friends can try out this technique.

I also used the great Lace Ribbon Boarder punch to accent the tag.  The phrase comes from the hostess set, Perfect Words.  The leaves are all attached to the tag using dimensionals (one day I think I will challenge myself to make something and (gasp) NOT use dimensionals, lol)

For the side of the box I used the Spice Cake Designer Series Paper and a torn strip of the matching Spice Cake fabric fat quarters.  I love how this little box turned out.  It would be great to package any gift inside or I think putting a gift card in would be a nice way to give it.  I know gift cards are great but they are not that fun because you don't have anything to open, well put that card in this little box and the recipent will get the fun of opening a gift and the pleasure of shopping for whatever he/she wants.  The best of both worlds, huh?

Change the theme to Christmas and you will have another adorable package. (Or so I think..... wink, wink)

Let's start 2-steppin'

This month, yes, the whole month, over at Sisters in Stamping we will be focusing on different stamping techniques rather than specific products like we have been.  We thought we'd switch it up a bit.  So for the first week the theme is 2-step stampin'.  One of perhaps the easiest techniques that many stampers start with but one that ALWAYS give a wow in the end. I love 2-step stampin' because it gives me a lot of color with minimal effort.  You all know how much I love to color, NOT!!!!!!!!

I decided to use the Awash with Flowers stamp set for my card.  (And, here's a side note, for anyone attending either of my events on Saturday, this is one of the cards you will also get to make)  This is a set that many people were able to get last year before it debuted in the big book, so I know those stampers will appreciate another idea using a  set they already have.

I went for a bright look and a stark contrast by using the black and white cardstock.  I love how it looks in person.  The camera just doesn't do it justice.  I used Daffodil Delight, Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo, & Tempting Turquoise cardstocks and ink.  I also used Wild Wasabi ink for the tiny little leaves on the flowers. Again, I did my current favorite ribbon technique, what I call, "ruffling" to finish off the card.

Here's a close-up of the stamped portion of the card.  The "inside" stamps (the one that are different colors) don't line up exactly inside the "outside" (aka line) stamps and that is how it's supposed to be.  SOOOOOOO, don't stress when you don't get it "perfect."  Those of you who stamp with me on a regular basis know, "It's not supposed to be perfect. It's homemade and comes from the heart. That's all that matters."  Right???

Cupcakes for everyone

This week at Sisters in Stamping we are focusing on the great cupcake punch found in the Occasions Mini Catalog.  I personally love how the punch coordinates with the stamp set, Create a Cupcake.  It's so much fun creating when you don't have to cut everything out the "old-fashioned" way (aka scissors).

I had some pre-cut materials left over from my Open House last weekend so I challenged myself to use a lot of what I already had ready to go.  (I just realized I didn't show you those cards, guess that will be in the next few days, so be sure to come back).  Anyway, I started with daffodil delight cardstock and folded the cardstock to make a z-fold card (see picture below).  I then used some of the great Designer Series paper from the Ice Cream parlour sweet from the Sale-a-bration brochure.  Which, by the way, you can get FREE with a $50 order until the end of March.

See a cool trick below for how I stamped both pieces of the cupcake and punched them out at the same time.  For the focal point of the card I used the 2 3/8" scallop circle punch and the 1 3/4" circle punch.  I attached the pom poms on the back of the old olive circle.  And of course, the cupcake is attached to that with dimensionals.

Here is the view from the top of the card so you can see how it's folded.  It's a very easy way to change up a "regular" card.  Just take the right edge of the card (where it opens) and fold it back to the left edge of the card (on the fold).  It's such a fun, festive birthday card.  Defintiely going to make a few more of these to have them on hand.

Here is the trick I promised you.  I took a piece of Stampin' Up!'s window sheets and punched it with the cupcake punch.  This allowed me to line up the stamps so that I could stamp and then punch only once. Cool, huh?

Christmas Cards I Received (Part 1)

This week I am going to be showing you the great hand stamped Christmas cards I received this year. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Here in the Yurkanin household it was fabulous.

I feel so blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life because of my "job."  I have met so many great woman during this almost 10 year journey as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator.  And I was reminded of that almost daily this Christmas season when I would go to the mailbox and open another hand stamped card.

Friday's Awash

It's Friday and you know what that means, right? It's time for another Fabulous Friday with my Sisters in Stamping. This week we are focusing on the Awash with Flowers stamp set (although I have used it with several of the other Fab Friday challenges lately. I was just getting ahead of myself.) Remember this stamp set is a sneak peek at what's to come in the new catalog when it makes it's big debut on July 1.  You have one week left to take advantage of this offer and get your's now.

Instead of stamping it like the traditional flowers they are meant to be. I used them as an all over background to create my own designer paper. What do you think?  It's a fun, different way to use stamps that are traditionally used to make pretty flowers.

I used one of the upcoming retiring colors, Summer Sun, for my main color on this card. I thought it was bright, cheerful and a great pick me up color to be used for a Get Well card.  I love how the Summer sun "glows" when paired with the basic black and whisper white.

Of course, I brought the outside to the inside by stamping one of the flowers in the lower right hand corner of the card. I like to place a sheet of whisper white inside cards that use dark colored cardstock so you can easily write in the card.

What, it's Friday already?

Can I say I simply can not believe how fast time flies by? It's just crazy. It's time for another Fabulous Friday. This week over at Sisters in Stamping our challenge was to use either the Hugs or Kisses from the Occasions Mini Catalog. It was a great challenge for me because I bought both of them back in December with my demonstrator preorder and guess what..... that's right, I haven't touched them. So it was time for me to actually do something with them.

I must say, I'm really pleased with how this card turned out. I love the vibrant colors and the layout is different making it a real eye catcher. Of course, that's just my not so humble opinion.

Now that you've seen her, isn't she a beauty?  I used old olive, melon mambo and crushed curry for the main colors. Of course, whisper white and basic black are the other 2 used.  The flower is from the Awash with Flowers stamp set that is a sneak peak of what's to come in the new catalog on July 1st for this month's special. You can purchase it (in either clear or wood mounts) or you can earn it FREE with a qualifying workshop order of $350 or more.  If you don't get it in April you have to wait until July to get it.

Awash with Flowers

Want to know what the images are in the set, Awash with Flowers, that I used in my previous post? Well, here they are.



These are all the images you will find in the Awash with Flowers Stamp set. It's a great two-step set. If you are good at looking outside the box, I'm sure you can find many great uses for these images that aren't just flowers.

2-Steppin' Friday

Welcome to another Fabulous Friday. Over at Sisters in Stamping we are showcasing projects using 2-step stamping. I personally love 2-step stamps because they give me a lot of color on my projects without me actually having to color. (Something I don't like to do very much at all.)

I used a new set that will makes it's official debut in the new 2010-2011 Idea Book & Catalog when it comes out July 1. However, don't be too upset because you can get it this month as part of Stampin' Up!'s 2-step promotion. You can even earn it FREE in addition to all the other great items you receive as a hostess with a qualifying workshop of $350 or more during the month of April. The set is called Awash with Flowers.



I used some colors that I don't usually go for on this card. Taken with teal, Crushed Curry and Cameo Coral. I'm please with how it turned out. I think it's very refreshing. I stamped the inside of the flower on both the crushed curry and the cameo coral strips of cardstock in their respective colors and then I ran them through the dot embossing folder in the Big Shot. It "needed" more dots because of the dots on the Crushed Curry cardstock.

I used Basic Gray ink for the outline because I wanted it to be a little softer looking than what black would do. I put the main image on the card with, f course, dimensionals. Instead of putting it square on I decided to tilt it a little and I like the fun look this gives the overall project.
