Stampers Dozen Blog Hop - Move Me

Hello Stamping Friends,

Are you loving all of these blog hops? I love being a part of them and hope you are finding them inspiring as I am. I love picking up tips and design ideas from others that I may not have thought of.  Tonight, we have another Stampers Dozen Blog Hop. Seriously, these are once a month, but the month goes by so quick every month that I say how can it be time for Stampers Dozen again. This month's theme is a little movement.

Cards that move are so exciting to make and even more exciting to see the recipient open the card (if you have the option to be there when it's opened). There are so many different types of movement cards, if you do a search you'll be surprised.

Here's the front of my card. A nice birthday card using Biggest Wishes and the Penguin Place stamp set along with the FREE Penguin Playmates designer series paper from Sale-a-bration. Not much movement here you say, that's okay because the surprise is on the inside.

Look at that! Open it up and pops up a bunch of birthday balloons to surprise the birthday person. The balloons are attached to the card using 1/4" strips of window sheets. I attached the ribbon between the dimensionals and the balloons before putting it on the window sheet strip. The string is tied together to make a balloon bouquet and then just left hanging.

So to get the movement, I cut a 8 1/4" x 5 1/4" piece of basic white cardstock. Then I folded it in half and I took a ruler on an angle (no measuring for me) and folded the cardstock on the fold to make a triangle. Then open up the cardstock and reverse fold it so the pop up comes out of the center of the card.

Let's Get Moving

Welcome! I hope you had a fantastic week and that you are planning on having an even better weekend. This week at the Sisters in Stamping we are sharing cards that move with you. It's always fun to receive and interactive card, but you know what? It's just as fun to make it. 

I decided to make a suspension card. The main image is suspended in the punched out front. It's even cooler because it doesn't just hang in there, but it can spin.  I love this type of card because it is relatively easy to make. Not a ton of steps or complicated directions. That's awesome, right?

You punch a circle (or any other shape you want) in the front of  your card. If you are layering, put your layers together (not glued down yet) and then punch so it will all be lined up. Then your focal image is stamped and punched on a smaller insert piece. Place a piece of string on the back of the stamped image. You'll actually need two stamped punched pieces to sandwich the string in between. Adhere the top and bottom of the string to the base of the card and then adhere your other layers accordingly. For my focal image, I actually used another circle punch to layer between the stamped images to give it a more finished look.

And of course, you need to finish off the inside a little to surprise the recipient a little more. The scrap piece of designer paper from cutting the front to size is perfect to finish it. 

This card, in all honesty, didn't take long to make at all. However, the impact is great when opened. Wouldn't you love to be surprised when you open this card?

Stamper's Dozen Blog Hop - Cards That Move

Told you I would be back today with the Stamper's Dozen Blog Hop. This month it's all about cards that move. Young and old enjoy interactive cards. When was the last time you made a card with movement? If it's been a while, then you have come to the right place this month. You will be inspired to make multiple cards that move. I can't wait to hear and see the movement cards you make after this hop.

I am giddy with excitement with my card. It turned out exactly how I imagined it would and you all know that doesn't always happen. I love, love, love it. Hope you will too. My card style was inspired by a card I made this summer with some great demonstrator friends when we got together for a few days up in Maine. Thanks Mel for the inspiration, and thanks Patty for getting us all together this summer.

After deciding on the type of card, I then went to the next phase: what in the world was I going to stamp on this slider card. In July we did a fish theme (I'll share that with you another day). I wanted to use some new stamps from the holiday catalog so I decided to use the Cookie Cutter Halloween set and was really focused on the adorable little scarecrow. Then it hit me like a brick road (I mean, wall). I can make a Wizard of Oz® themed card with my little scarecrow sliding down the yellow brick road with the mean, nasty apple trees behind him. Yeppers, this was all my idea. I didn't see this anywhere else and then tweak it to make it my own, it was all from my little brain. Which made me even happier. (It's really the small things, right?)

So without further adieu, here is the card:

Isn't it awesome? I wish I can figure out a Dorothy to go with him. 

Here he is sliding halfway across the yellow brick road. The piece you pull to make the scarecrow move is where you can stamp a greeting and/or write a message. With the ribbon on the edge, it gives the recipient a HUGE clue to pull out the card. You know, non-crafters often don't know how to "work" our great creations.

And here he is at the "end" of the yellow brick road. The card is completely pulled out and you can see the message. I thought I wanted to find something that would be a good fit to go along with the movie. The Here for You set had the perfect sayings; sometimes life is a pain in the neck (which the tin man complained about his neck) and the other part, sometimes it's a pain in other places too fits the scarecrow when Dorothy encountered him. Yes, I watched a couple clips to make sure I wasn't imagining them saying these things. Didn't want to mislead anyone with my indirect quotes.

To make the card, I started with a 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of emerald envy cardstock. I then scored it at 1/4" and at 4 1/8". Punch half of a circle after you finish stamping your white layer by lining up the edge of the whisper white cardstock and the emerald envy. Then you make a slice through the front of the card just above the yellow brick road. This is how your scarecrow will slide (you can see the slit in the picture above). Then I put a 1/2" x 2" piece of cardstock through the slit so half is showing in the front and the bottom half is inside the card. Attach that to the pull out card piece and then attach your scarecrow with a dimensional to the top half that is sticking out in front of the first tree. Seal the left and bottom edges with tear and tape and you are done.

Today at Sisters in Stamping we are sharing with you projects made using the great Designer Series Paper Stampin' Up! offers. You won't be at a creative loss for long when you select one of the great packages of paper from the Annual Catalog or the Occasions Catalog. They make creating so easy. I love picking a designer paper when I'm stuck with color combos because I know they work together and my finished project will look just as great because the colors "go together."

 

I decided to share with you this card in a box. These are the hottest little projects right now. It folds flat so you can easily slip it into an envelope and send it on its way. What a treat for the recipient when they open the envelope and the box "pops up" by itself. Think baby, birthday, or any special occasion. This card will delight anyone.

 

 

This particular one uses the watercolor wonder designer series paper from the Occasions Catalog. And that's exactly where I got my color combo from for all of the butterflies. Great time of year to see colorful butterflies, isn't it?  You may be wondering how the butterflies are "flying" mid-air because it isn't very easy to see, so I will tell you. I used small strips of window sheets to attach to the card and the butterflies are attached to the other end of the window sheet. Even in person, it isn't easy to see this.

 

I think you may be able to see the window sheet here just a little bit. Still not easy, so this makes it the perfect solution to "suspend" things in air on all your projects.  Don't forget to head over to Sisters in Stamping to see more great ideas using the best designer series paper around.

Fabulous Friday ( A little late)

(Yes, I know today is not Friday, but I didn't get a chance to post this for Friday, so I decided it's better late than never.  Besides I think this card turned out so cute that I couldn't keep it all to myself. It must be shared with all of you.)

This week at Sisters in Stamping we were to make a card that moved.  There are so many great movement cards out there. The card I finally decided on (it was difficult to choose) was a waterfall card. They are so fun for kids to receive, so I went with a little boy theme as well. I hope you enjoy it.

 

What little boy doesn't love a space theme? I know my Jonah loves all things space. His room is even done with a space theme with a wall with glow in the dark "stars."  I think this blast off stamp set is so fun.  I used the coordinating wheel in whisper white ink for the background.  Looks pretty cool already, but keep reading because you are going to love what this card does.

Okay, see those model fingers?  lol  Not at all but anyway, you pull on the bottom of the lucky limeade cardstock (as shown) and the images create a waterfall look.  The key is scoring the limeade piece (you cut the limeade to be 1 1/2" by 8 1/2" and then score at 4 1/2", 5 1/2", 6 1/2" and 7 1/2", you place the stamped images on each of the 1" score spaces and attach the bottom 1" space onto the daffodil delight strip of cardstock).  If you want book a workshop and I will come and make this for you and all your guests can make it as well.

 

And here it is pulled down all the way.  Pretty neat, right?

 

And I wanted to use the little space guy but he was to big for the outside squares (white cardstock is 1 1/2" squares) so I decided to place a piece of white cardstock on the inside and stamp him and the countdown to blast off image.
