School Days, School Days, Good Old Golden Rule Days

Hello Stamping Friends,

I don't want summer to end. I'm so grateful that we had some extra days off this summer and we don't actually start school until Tuesday. The day after Labor Day, just like it was when I was a kid. Isn't Labor Day the unofficial end of summer? Then that's when school should go back too. All the time, not just this year. Oh, a girl can dream and wish upon a star.

Anyway, come Tuesday, it will be back to routine, except one thing, my "baby" will be a senior. His last year of high school. Where, oh, where did the time go? I need this year to go by real sssssllllooooow. Did you think that can happen?

 

This week for Fabulous Friday with the Sisters in Stamping we are focusing on Back to School projects. I decided to share with you a banner I made for a class I had last week.

 

I thought it was going to be difficult to complete the banner because, Stampin' Up! doesn't have a lot of "school" type things. Or do they?  Well, I got to thinking and came up with a chalkboard look. I created the chalkboard by stamping the hardwood stamp on crumb cake cardstock and then placing a piece of black cardstock on top. I then used the chalk marker and the banner stencils to "doodle" the letters onto each chalkboard. Each letter is a little different. Then I picked the Flashback designer paper and the colors from that were good for a school theme. I added some of the typeset designer paper for the book look and maps. Finished each chalkboard letter off with some hardware (clips and clothespins). I must admit, I'm quite happy with the end result.

 

 

I also tilted some of the letters and banners so it wasn't so matchy, matchy. Also, when I cut the middle out of the paper banners under each letter, I used those pieces for the corners of the chalkboard frames. No wasting. Definitely added some character to the finished banner.

And now for the project I promised you. A beautiful "LOVE" banner. It is the month of love and who can't use a little more love each and every day?

 

 

I love banners because they easily change the look of an entire room. Just hang it up and you're good to go. I used the now retired canvas banner pieces to make this kit. I actually do a banner class each and every month using these pieces so you can have a collection for every holiday or occasion.

 

Just a close up of the heart on the banner. Each of the small red hearts were embossed with a different folder. Great way to add some texture and variation to your banner pieces.  Yes, I punched each one of those little circles around the large scallop heart. It may have been tedious but the end result looks great.

Today is Friday and you all know what that means: Fabulous Friday with the Sisters in Stamping.  Friday is  day we all look forward to for so many different reasons. One of the many reasons I like Friday is that I get to share my love for stamping and creating with all of you and my "Sisters in Stamping"  I love being a part of that group, these ladies have become friends that I treasure and it all started because of stamps and our love of creating.

 

This week with the sisters we are showing you some of our favorite new products. There are so many great new things in the Holiday catalog as well as other things that recently became available that you won't find in either catalog. Prior to the holiday catalog coming out, I was wanting to begin a monthly banner class. There are so many reasons to decorate throughout the year and I thought a banner would be a great home décor piece to add to each occasion. Well, imagine my excitement when I received the holiday catty in my hot little hands and saw the new banner kit. This just made the whole banner class process that much easier.

 

 

This is the banner created at my first class: Celebrate. What better way to kick off the new class but with a celebration banner that can be used for so many occasions. Birthday (of course), retirement, kid's great report card, new job or promotion, or any other event that you want to celebrate.  I kept it kind of neutral by not putting any party hats or cupcakes on it so that it could be used for anything and not just for a birthday.

 

The next few photos will be close-ups of a few banner pieces at a time so you can see them closer.  I love the banner kit because of the awesome stencils that come with it. You get three stencils to make backgrounds, one circle stencil, in case you wanted to color the circle the letter is in and then you get stencils for the complete alphabet. Isn't that awesome?

I made some lollies for the banner and glued a little brights button to the center to hide the hot glue.  They are also hot glued to the banner to make sure they stay put. Notice the "l" banner, it has an extra piece of canvas attached over the banner that comes in the kit.  I cut a piece of canvas from the 12x12 canvas sheet that you will find in the 2013-2014 Catalog. Fun little spin, right?

I also used Chevron ribbon in colors that closely coordinated with the colors I sponged on to the banners using the stencils and ink pads to decorate the twine that is holding the banner all together.

 

Isn't it an awesome little banner that will make your next celebration even more special?  As I mentioned earlier, I am offering a banner class every month. September's theme is Halloween so be watching for my class schedule so you can attend.

A Little Love for You

Have you been enjoying my being back? Sorry for the sporadic-ness (as if that's even a word) in my posting over the past few weeks. It's been a little hectic but I hope I'm back for good now.  There's so much going on in the Stampin' Up! world and I hope you are loving all of it. I know I'm excited for all that is happening and all that is coming soon. So in honor of all my love for the new things, my love for all of you (my biggest supporters and cheerleaders) and of course Valentine's day, I hope you love my little banner.

 

I had so much fun making this cutie. It's great because it's not big so it's easy to find a perfect spot for it just about anywhere in your home or office.
