One-of-a-Kind Lady in My Life

Remember to Create!

Hello Stamping Friends,

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying each day as best as you can. This week with the Sisters in Stamping we are sharing Mother's Day cards with you. We all have that one-of-a-kind person in our life, our mom and I know I certainly had a one-of-a-kind mom.

Growing up, we didn't have a ton of money. We weren't able to have the best of everything. We didn't go out to eat often. We didn't even take "proper" vacations until I was in high school and in order to do that, my mom took out a loan. But my mom, did so much for us, that I thought we were rich. I thought we went to the best restaurants when we did go out. I thought I had the best clothes ever. And I thought those trips to stay at her cousin's house, my aunt's house or her friend's house were the best vacations ever. It was because of how she looked at them that we saw them the same way. So many great memories were made with not a ton of money.

I honestly, haven't participated in this day of posting for the past few years because this is not an easy time of year for me since I lost my mom when she was so young (and so was I). I don't have anyone to give a Mother's Day card to so I really don't enjoy making them.

However, I decided this year this card was a perfect fit for me to actually participate in the blog. I'm sure you'll notice there is no greeting on my card (never mind, a Happy Mother's Day), but this card is the perfect card for me to share a memorable story with you about my mom this Mother's Day. It's a story that I am often reminded of thanks to my sister. I hope you will keep reading.

When I was about twelve years old, we went to visit one of my mom's friends. While we were there, we pulled out Pictionary and set off to play a few rounds. It was all good and fun, until it was my turn to draw a seahorse for my team (aka Mom). I drew it much like what you see above. The key being I drew the tail curled in the front. My teammate (aka Mom) had no idea what I drew. I then shared what it was and she started laughing. Imagine that!!!!  Yep, she laughed so hard that she literally started crying. I still didn't know why she was laughing so much. She couldn't even speak. Well, guess what happened when Mom was laughing so hard that it brought tears. Yep, you guessed it! I started crying and it wasn't for the same reason as my mom. Nope! I was crying because my mom thought my drawing was so bad that it made her laugh until she cried. Finally, she was able to get out the words to tell us what made her laugh. Wait for it.........it was because I drew the tail in the front. Uh-huh, just like the above. In her head it should have been behind the seahorse and she just found it so odd.

To this very day, I have NEVER played Pictionary again, nor will I. However, my younger sister is so kind to buy me seahorse items from time to time and even has my now grown children pointing out seahorses to me. As recently as last week, my sister bought seahorse dog toys. The harassment is real people! (LOL)

So, now instead of drawing anything I stamp. And I will buy seahorse stamps because they make me think of my mom.  If you are lucky enough to still have your mother don't take her for granted. I know I did because I was only 20  years old when I lost her and I miss her every single day for the past 25 years (with tears in my eyes as I type this).

Thank you for stopping by and letting me share a special part of my memories with my mom with you. I hope you have a wonderful day with your mother or with your children as they celebrate you.

Don't forget to head over to Sisters in Stamping for more ideas that are geared for those one-of-a-kind ladies in our lives.

If you have any questions on how to make the card, please ask. I'd be happy to share it with you. All of the "ingredients" used to make it are below.

Happy Mother's Day

Hello Stamping Friends,

I hope you are all well this fine Friday. I know it's been raining a lot in these parts and we desperately need a little sunshine but hang in there, I know the sun will be shining bright soon. As you all know this weekend is a pretty big weekend for all moms out there, it's Mother's Day on Sunday. Do you have any thing planned or will it be a surprise? I know we will be headed out to dinner (I'm thinking, Kundla's, the outside BBQ because this is opening weekend for the season) and then of course we will be heading to a soccer game, thanks to Jonah and his travel team.

So whatever your plans are, I wish you a very Happy Mother's Day. Enjoy every moment with your kids, they grow way too fast. This week at Sister's in Stamping we are sharing Mother's Day cards with you, so if you still haven't sat down to make your special card we are here for some inspiration.

My card isn't the traditional Happy Mother's Day card. It's a thinking of you card. As many of you know, I lost my mom when I was 20 years old (almost 22 years ago) so I wanted a card that would make me think of my mom because I couldn't send it to her. I haven't figured out her address. It's top secret until I get there myself one day. I thought this was the perfect card that would make me think of her. Very serene.  Of course, this same card can be used for  a lot of other occasions as well.

This is also a quick card to make, jut stamp and assemble. So you can make a lot of these cards in a short amount of time making it a great card to make a set of 4 or 8 to give as a gift.

Don't forget to head over to Sisters in Stamping for more Mother's Day inspiration. Again, I wish you a very Happy Mother's Day with your loved ones. Enjoy your day!

And another oops, but only a day late......

Hello Stamping Friends,

Here's is yesterday's Sisters in Stamping challenge project. I went to school knowing it was Friday (yippee!) but totally forgetting that it was Friday. Know what I mean? I mean, I was excited it was Friday and that I had two days off but forgot it was Friday and that I needed to get my post done for Sisters in Stamping. Confusing, I know but it is was happened. Didn't even realize it until just before bed. I hope to be back on track next week. (It's my goal, lol)

Anyway, this week we were challenged to make a Mother's Day project. I'm sharing with you a card that I saw somewhere (but I did change up the colors to make it my own, lol)  It's such a pretty card. I just wish I had my mom to give it too. I must admit, I really don't even think of making Mother's Day cards because I don't have a use for them, they just pile up. It's a difficult day for me for the past 20 years. The first Mother's Day without my mom was also my college graduation. Talk about a difficult day. Hmmm, maybe I should just send them to some Mom's that I know that would certainly appreciate them.

Anyway, here is the beautiful card. Honestly, just change the greeting out and you can use this card for a variety of occasions (wedding, birthday, anniversary, shower).

To make the flowers:
1. punch 5 of the 1 3/4" scallop circles and 5 of the 1 1/4" scallop circles.
2. Punch a 1/16" hole in the center of each circle.
3. Spritz each circle with some water and scrunch and crinkle them up (take all your daily frustrations out on that paper, lol).
4. Open each paper back up and layer them one by one on a brad. When all 5 of one size is on one brad, flatten the brad to secure. (You'll do this 2x to make both the small and larger flower)
5. Starting with the top layer fold the paper and scrunch it around the brad, then bring up the second layer around the first layer. Continue doing this until you do it to all five layers on each flower. Finally, shape the flower to the design you want it.
6. Let it dry, the flower will keep it's shape even after the paper dries. Attach the flower with a dimensional to the card.

Also, you will want to cut the lattice piece in half to put it on the card. It doesn't matter which way you cut it because it's a square, so it will be even anyway you decide to cut.

Don't forget to head over to Sisters in Stamping for more Mother's Day project ideas.

Mother's Day is round the corner

Hello Stamping Friends,

I'm loving May. The weather is fabulous. The leaves are starting to take shape on all the trees (even up here on the mountain). It's such a great time of year.  And with May, we have Mother's Day right around the corner.  So in honor of all Mom's, today at Sisters in Stamping we decided to share some great Mother's Day cards with you.

I decided to make a card that was more of a card a child would love to give to Mom on her special day.  It's a fun card instead of a more formal one. Besides, what Mom doesn't want to get a card that tells her she is the best? I know I would want one.

Don't forget to head over to the Sisters in Stamping blog to see what the other sisters created for Mother's Day.
